Not A Slave To Food

In Christ we are FREE not a slave to food, not a slave to feelings. Are you being held captive by food or by your feelings? Jesus came to set the captives free. You may have relied on food to comfort you your whole life, but in Christ you are a new creation. It can be scary to let go of what you know, what's familiar, and comfortable, but Jesus is trustworthy.

You need to start seeing yourself as new. Allow God to reveal to you the woman He created you to be. That means removing all of the things that aren't you. God's offer is abundant life, but He won't force you to accept it, nor will He force you to let go of your old ways. You have to choose the life you want. A life addicted to negative thinking, feeding your feelings, and being unhealthy, or a life of freedom and self control, where God is your comforter.

We have to renew our minds and learn a new way of doing things. Taking our worries, cares, and stresses to God, rather than to drugs, alcohol, or food has clear consequences; dealing with your problems in an unhealthy way can lead to addiction. When we choose to take our problems and worries to The Lord there's a beautiful exchange that happens where He takes your worries and gives you His peace.

The Bible doesn't tell you to never eat sweets or junk food, but it says, "I will not be brought under the power of anything."

1 Corinthians 6:12-13

12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. 13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them...

Many women have been brought under the power of food. Overeating, consuming large quantities of sweets and junk food. Making excuses for why they eat the way they do, but the reality is, food has a hold on them.

As Christians we fast. It's a part of our walk with The Lord. One of the things fasting does is strengthens our spirit and weakens our flesh. It's showing our flesh that it's not in control, but rather our spirit is in control. Self control and discipline were not only for the disciples who walked with Jesus. It's for all who are in Christ. If you're struggling with the desires of your flesh and/or running to unhealthy coping mechanisms you may want to consider fasting. During that time you pray and seek The Lord about the issues you've been having and invite Him into it. Ask Him for help and pour out your heart to Him. Tell Him about what you've been doing and why, and if you're not sure why, ask Him to reveal it to you. When He does, process it in His presence. Ask Him to heal your heart and renew your mind.

Galatians 5:22-25

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Knowing the Word of God is vital for having a healthy mind. You need to be able to counter every negative thought with the truth of God's Word. Spend time seeking Him and studying His Word. Meditate on it, so that you really understand it and ask God for deeper revelations of His Word.

It's God's will for you to be healthy mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Invite Him into every aspect of your health and watch how He transforms you over time.
